A group of our wonderful horticulture students are set to participate in the BBC Gardeners' World competition, showcasing their talents in landscaping and horticulture at the TV show's Spring Fair. The college will be competing with Merrist Wood College in Guildford and Capel Manor College in Enfield, North London.

Under the mentorship of award-winning garden designer Cherry Carmen, who has previously won gold at BBC Gardeners' World Live, the competing teams will craft budget-friendly garden designs centered around the theme "gardening in a challenging climate."

Plumpton College's submission, titled "Hort Couture - Less Is More," presents a courtyard garden concept inspired by fashion. The design incorporates upcycled elements such as a catwalk path made from recycled rubber and buttons, a green wall system utilizing denim pockets, climbers resembling clothes rails, and sculptures fashioned from coat hangers.

The competition will take place at Beaulieu in the New Forest from the 3rd-5th May 2024. Lucy Tremlett, head of the horticultural division at Immediate Live, the organisers of the BBC Gardeners' World Spring Fair, expressed excitement about witnessing the innovative approaches of the next generation of landscapers and horticulturists tackling such a significant theme. She eagerly anticipates seeing the college competition gardens displayed at Beaulieu.
