Course Overview

The RHS Level 2 Certificate is awarded upon successful completion of two core qualifications:

  1. RHS Certificate in Practical Horticulture
  2. RHS Certificate in Principles of Plant Growth and Development

Our unique delivery combines both practical hands-on experience and theoretical learning, allowing you to develop core horticultural skills throughout the year. You'll gain practical experience in a wide range of tasks, ensuring you understand both the science and practice of horticulture.

Key Topics Covered:

  • Plant Identification – Learn how to identify a wide variety of plants, key species, and their uses in the landscape.
  • Plant Establishment & Propagation – Understand the process of planting and propagating plants to ensure their successful establishment in the garden.
  • Plant Health, Care & Pruning – Learn techniques to care for and maintain plant health, including effective pruning methods.
  • Turf Establishment & Maintenance – Study turf management, from establishment to long-term maintenance, and understand how to maintain garden features.
  • Garden Feature Maintenance – Gain essential knowledge in maintaining structures and features in the garden to keep them in top condition.

To demonstrate your knowledge and skills, learners are required to complete two sets of Practical Competence Assessments (PCA) for the practical qualification, this is conducted by an external RHS examiner at One Garden. You will also be required to take an online exam (online competence assessment) at the end of the course.

Please note: Due to the continual assessment and practical nature of the course, a minimum of 95% attendance is required to successfully complete the qualification.

Course Cost

£1150.00 Tuition Fees + Material Fees (£35.00) 

Assessment

Entry Requirements

  • Physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.  

  • General stationery for learning plus a laptop would be beneficial  

  • You will require steel toe capped boots or protective footwear. You may wish to bring your own secateurs although these can be purchased onsite 

Studying a Level 1 or Level 2 Part-Time Course?

Tuition could be FREE

If you are unemployed and in receipt of state benefits, or if you are working and your income is under £25,750 (from September 2024), you may be entitled to financial support towards your tuition fees. For courses starting in 26/27 Academic Year: To secure your place on one of these courses, a reservation fee of £50 will be required upon application. The reservation fee will be refunded upon a candidates first registered attendance on their programme.
