Where Land Meets Sea: Coastal & Marine Herbal Medicine Workshop
10:00am — 3:00pm
10:00am — 3:00pm
Where land meets sea, some of our most remarkable plant medicines are born.
Join us for an immersive, full-day workshop exploring the healing plants of coastlines, salt marshes, and oceans — from the soft, soothing leaves of mallow to the mineral-rich depths of sea kelp. Together, we’ll journey through both traditional and modern uses of shoreline and marine plants, discovering how they can support the gut, skin, immune system, thyroid, and nervous system.
Set within the beautiful, living landscape of One Garden, this experiential day blends plant wisdom, practical herbal knowledge, and hands-on medicine-making. You’ll learn how coastal plants adapt to wind, salt, and tidal rhythms — and how these same qualities can help restore resilience in our own bodies when we feel depleted, inflamed, or out of balance.
You’ll leave with a handcrafted herbal preparation, a deeper understanding of coastal and marine medicine, and a fresh perspective on the healing edge between land and water.
We’re delighted to welcome two inspiring guest teachers who will bring additional depth and experience to the day:
Jo brings over 30 years of experience as a marine biologist and educator. She has extensively surveyed and studied seaweeds around the British coastline and previously worked with the Sussex Wildlife Trust, leading educational programmes across nature reserves and schools in Brighton and Hove. Jo now brings together her ecological knowledge and passion for teaching in this unique collaboration.
Fergus Drennan (Fergus the Forager) is a renowned wild food experimentalist and educator. He runs immersive foraging courses for both the public and private groups and has written widely on wild food for publications including BBC Countryfile Magazine, The Ecologist, and Bushcraft & Survival Skills. Fergus will guide a hands-on session in seaweed pressing and herbarium specimen preservation.
(Season and availability will guide what we encounter)
No prior herbal knowledge is needed — all are welcome.
