Plumpton College
The recent restoration of the walled garden has been managed and proudly opened by local education provider Plumpton College, based in Plumpton near Lewes. Plumpton College is the leading college for land based education in the South East. It covers 19 specialist subjects including Agriculture, Equine Management, Horticulture, Veterinary Nursing and Wine.
One Garden Brighton is the home of the college’s horticultural centre of excellence, a space for training and education. The campus buildings are nestled within the walls and you will see students designing, planting and maintaining the grounds as a showcase for innovation. The College offers full time courses for school leavers, full and part time courses for adults wishing to enter, retrain or upskill in the horticulture sector and short workshops for the local community.
Horticulture contributes £30 billion to the UK economy every year and employs around 300,000 people across a variety of disciplines. However, 70% of businesses say that they struggle to find the skilled worker [RHS, 2014]. There are therefore many career opportunities available at a range of levels within Horticulture today and Plumpton College prides itself through its campus at One Garden Brighton in training the next generation of Horticulturalists.
You can find out more about the range of courses and qualifications available by speaking to a member of the team at One Garden Brighton or by visiting a Plumpton College open event.
