Introduction to Food and Wine Pairing

Do you want to feel confident choosing a bottle of wine when you cook a special meal? How about when the wine list comes round in a restaurant? If you love food and wine and would like to explore the world of taste a little more, this is the course for you. It will teach you the principles of food and wine pairing so that you can apply them to any dining experience, enhancing your enjoyment. As well as theory, the course gives students the opportunity to engage in practical tasting and pairing of food and wine.

Topics include:

• Introduction to wine tasting theory
• Basic components of food & wine
• Analysing menu case studies
• Writing systematic tasting notes
• Experimenting with food & wine matching
• Evaluating food & wine pairings
• Discovering the interactions that work best for you

The course ends with a short multiple-choice exam.

No prior industry experience required - this course is open to anyone who is interested in learning about food and wine.

Please note Plumpton College Wine Division have recently secured some funding, allowing for a reduction in price to a selection of wine courses, subject to eligibility*.

*Learners will be eligible for funding if they were aged over 19 on 31st August 2024 and have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years. Learners living in devolved areas (eg Greater London Combined Authority) will not be eligible for funding. Learners currently undertaking an apprenticeship will not be eligible for funding.
